Audit and assurance

An audit should leave a business better informed than it was before, not merely compliant. Ours are run that way.

Most businesses experience audit as an annual interruption. That is usually a sign the audit was run badly.

Who does the work

Engagements are led by professionals qualified with the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants. You are not handed to a junior and visited once.

Internal audit

A review of how money, stock and information actually move through the business, as opposed to how the procedure manual says they do. The gap between those two is where losses live.

Typical findings are unglamorous and expensive: approvals that one person can grant to themselves, stock that is counted but never reconciled, supplier payments nobody matched to a delivery.

Financial statement audit

Independent examination of your annual financial statements, planned around where the real risk sits rather than where the testing is easiest. You get the report you need for the Registrar, your bank or your investors, and a management letter written in language your board can act on.

Audits are performed and signed by an ICAG practising member. We plan around your calendar: if your year end is December and your bank wants statements in March, that drives the fieldwork schedule, not our convenience.

Financial statement preparation

For businesses without a full finance function, preparation of annual statements to the applicable reporting framework. Where we prepare the statements, a different engagement team handles any assurance work, so nobody is reviewing their own output.

Agreed-upon procedures and reviews

Where a full audit is not required or not proportionate: a limited review, a specific procedure a lender or donor has asked for, or verification of a defined set of transactions. Narrower scope, faster turnaround, lower fee.

Donor and grant audits

NGOs and donor-funded programmes carry documentation standards that differ from a standard commercial audit. We work to the funder's terms of reference and the reporting format they require.

What makes our approach different

We also build the systems that generate accounting data. That means when we find a control weakness, we can tell you precisely what it would take to close it, and we can build that fix if you want us to.

It also means we read your systems quickly. An auditor who has built an invoicing workflow spots a broken one faster than one who has only ever reviewed printouts.

Common questions

When do we legally need a statutory audit?

It depends on your company type, turnover and what your regulator, lender or shareholders require. Tell us your situation and we will tell you plainly whether you need a statutory audit, a review, or neither. Many businesses are told they need one when they do not.

How long does the work take?

For a small to mid-sized company with reasonable records, fieldwork usually runs one to three weeks, with reporting after. Poor records are what extends the work, not complexity.

Our books are a mess. Can you still help?

Yes, though the accounting cleanup is separate work from the audit, and it has to come first. We will scope and price them separately so you can see what each costs.

What do you need from us to start?

Prior year financial statements, your trial balance, bank statements, and access to whoever keeps the records. We send a full request list at engagement.

Whether it is a statutory deadline, a tax position you are unsure of, or an operation drowning in manual work, the first conversation costs nothing and usually clarifies a great deal.
